Does anyone still care if Rage and Joshua finally fight?

Promoter Eddie Hearn still hopes to set up the fight between former British kings Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua in 2026.

America came out years ago

While some UK fans are still eager to see the tired match-up, the US public has shied away from both, seeing them as too rich and symbols of artificially created fighters who were never as good as they were marketed to be.

Interest in the Wrath-Joshua battle has long since faded for many. It’s beyond the decay stage as the game has been talked about for over 10 years now. Neither of them wanted to fight when it really mattered, when they were still in their 20s. The way both of them have looked in the last three years, I see it as a shame that the match would happen now.

Why should we even care anymore?

The competition would have meant something five years ago when they were still at the top of their games, but neither is anywhere near the high level at this point. Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) has lost his last two fights and looks old at 37.

At this point, Joshua and Fury were inactive, both facing devastating losses. I’m not sure which one it was

Their net worth is over $100 million each, and if they were to fight, both would see their bank accounts swell by at least another $100 million.

Joshua’s expensive four-fight rebuild by Hearn was a complete failure, as he was wiped out in his last fight when he was matched up against a half-decent fighter, Daniel DuBois in September 2024.

Haran’s golden pension plan

Hearn is still interested in the fight, obviously. The question is whether Turki Alsheikh will want to pay the huge price tag to put together the Fury vs. Joshua fight. I don’t understand why he would do that. It’s a fight that will only resonate with the UK boxing public, not the world at large. Americans don’t rate them, and I’m not sure they ever did.

Fury’s best win is Klitschko, and the second closest is Deontay Wilder. What does this say about the rage of the ‘gypsy king’? He was never the real thing.

“The thing AJ wants more than anything is to fight Tyson Fury,” said Eddie Hearn Sky Sports.

“I think Turki Alshek is probably the only one who can make a Tyson Fury fight because both guys will want a huge amount of money. And the biggest fight in the sport is Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury,” Hearn told ESPN.
