Bill Haney has revealed his 10-fighter “hit list” for his son Devin Haney, starting with Brian Norman Jr. on November 22nd. He says Devin (32-0, 16 KOs) needs to “get over him” to move on to the next fighter on his list.
Haney, 26, looked terrified and overly cautious in his last fight against veteran Jose Ramirez on May 2 in Times Square. Devin seems to have been a mentally broken fighter, still haunted by the beating he took on Marian Garcia in 2024.
Promoter Eddie Hearn said Devin seemed concerned about his ability to land a punch. If Honey fights hesitantly against Norman, he won’t last long.
For Hani to fight any of the fighters in his last other than Bryan Jr.’s, he will have to fight with the old aggression he displayed when he was campaigning at 135.
There is no path to the next name
Given the way Haynie has performed in his last two fights, he has very little chance of making it to the next opponent on his list. If he is obliterated by WBO welterweight champion Norman Jr. (28-0, 22 KOs), he can forget his illusory list.
Instead, focus on a rescue mission to rebuild against weaker fighters. Turki Alsheikh will have no reason to pour money into the Ryan Garcia vs. Haney rematch. This rivalry will be dead in the water after Norman Jr. is done with Devin.
“They’re all realistic. (Brian Norman) was the most unrealistic,” Bill Haney said 78SportstvWe discussed how fans doubted he would match Devin against WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr.
Haney vs. Norman Jr. will fight in the co-slot of the David Benavidez vs. Anthony Yarde event on DAZN PPV on November 22 at the ANB Arena in Riyadh.
“Our next move is to go through him to get to our next move,” Bill said of Norman Jr. “That’s what we plan to do on November 22. “I see someone who’s been in the division for eight years and still hasn’t fought a champion.”
whistling across the graveyard
It sounds like Bill is whistling across the graveyard, ignoring Honey’s plight going into this fight with Norman Jr. Realistically, Devin’s next step would be to fight some sub-par fighter in a confidence builder after he loses to Norman Jr.
