In a regional first, Uruguay passes the law allowing euthanasia




Uruguay’s Senate on Wednesday passed a law decriminalizing euthanasia, placing the Latin American nation among a handful of countries where terminally ill patients can legally obtain help to end their lives. Uruguay becomes the first predominantly Catholic Latin American country to allow euthanasia via legislation. Colombia and Ecuador decriminalized the practice through Supreme Court decisions.
